  1. Installing Supplemental Drivers on a Network
  2. --------------------------------------------
  3. This file is intended for system administrators or anyone
  4. else who will install the drivers in this package onto a 
  5. network for use with a shared copy of Windows.
  6.  
  7. 1. Create a new directory on the network drive for the
  8.    supplemental drivers you are going to install. It might be
  9.    most convenient to make this directory a subdirectory of
  10.    the Windows directory.
  11.  
  12.    This new directory should not be the Windows system directory,
  13.    where the original Windows device drivers were installed.
  14.  
  15. 2. Copy all of the files in the Supplemental Driver Library disks
  16.    to the directory you created in step 1.
  17.  
  18. 3. Copy all of the files in the new directory to the Windows
  19.    directory.
  20.  
  21.    There will then be two copies of these files on your network
  22.    drive. Both sets of drivers are necessary in order to ensure
  23.    that these drivers will work properly on the users' systems.
  24.  
  25. 4. Delete the file OEMSETUP.INF from the Windows directory.
  26.  
  27.    This ensures that this version of OEMSETUP.INF won't be 
  28.    overwritten by another file with the same name.
  29.  
  30.    You should not delete the copy of OEMSETUP.INF that is in the
  31.    directory you created in step 1.
  32.  
  33. Once these steps are completed, users of the shared copy of Windows
  34. will automatically have access to these drivers.
  35.  
  36. The only exception is display drivers. To use one of the display
  37. drivers included in this package, the user will need to run Setup
  38. from MS-DOS using the following procedure. (This procedure is not
  39. necessary for users who will not be using one of these display
  40. drivers.)
  41.  
  42. 1.  Exit Windows.
  43.  
  44. 2.  Type the following at the DOS prompt and then press ENTER:
  45.  
  46.     setup /n 
  47.  
  48. 3.  Press the UP ARROW key to select the Display setting and then
  49.     press ENTER.
  50.  
  51. 4.  Scroll to the bottom of the list using the DOWN ARROW key.
  52.  
  53. 5.  Select Other and press ENTER.
  54.  
  55. 6.  Type the pathname of the display driver and press ENTER.
  56.  
  57.     The driver will be located on the subdirectory created in
  58.     step 1 of the previous set of instructions.
  59.     
  60.     Setup then updates your WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI files to 
  61.     correspond to the new driver and then displays an updated
  62.     list of your hardware.
  63.  
  64. 7.  Press ENTER to complete the process.
  65.  
  66. 8.  Start Windows.  
  67.  
  68. The preceding procedure might not work if the user has a
  69. local copy of Setup. In this case, the user will have to
  70. manually change the settings in the SYSTEM.INI file and possibly
  71. take additional actions. If you cannot use Setup /n to gain access
  72. to a Supplemental Library display driver from the network, follow
  73. the instructions that follow.

  76. Manually Installing an SDL Display driver from a Network
  77. to a Local Workstation
  78. --------------------------------------------------------
  79.  
  80. You do not need to read the information in the following section
  81. unless you were unable to use Setup to configure a user's system 
  82. to use a Supplemental Library display driver that is on a 
  83. network share.
  84.  
  85.   Printing this file:  You should print this file in landscape 
  86.   mode (11 inches wide, 8.5 inches high) so that the table in
  87.   this document will not run off the page.
  88.  
  89. To manually configure a workstation to gain access to an SDL display
  90. driver on a network, follow these steps:
  91.  
  92. 1.  Open your SYSTEM.INI file using a text editor, such as Notepad.
  93.     This file should be located in your Windows directory.
  94.  
  95. 2.  Locate the following four settings in SYSTEM.INI. In the [boot]
  96.     section, locate the display.drv= and 386grabber= settings.
  97.     In the [boot.description] section, locate the display.drv= setting.
  98.     In the [386Enh] section, locate the display= setting.
  99.  
  100. 3.  Look up the display driver you want to use in the following list and
  101.     change the corresponding SYSTEM.INI values (the values are what
  102.     appears to the right of the equal sign) to those shown on the list.

  124.     Make sure you have correctly typed the appropriate values into your
  125.     SYSTEM.INI file.

  127. 4.  Save the new settings and close the SYSTEM.INI file.

  129. 5.  Exit Windows, if you have not already done so.
